The Universität des Saarlandes and the Charles Dickens-Gesellschaft Deutschland are sponsoring a Dickens Seminar, Thursday, 10 June–Saturday 12 June 2010: “Charles Dickens as an Agent for Change.” Michael Slater will be the key-note speaker on Thursday afternoon. On Friday and Saturday there will be sixteen papers by Dickensians from all over the Dickens world, with ten minutes of discussion time for each twenty-minute paper. Saturday afternoon the Seminar will pay a visit to the nearby World Cultural Heritage site, a nineteenth-century steel mill, complete with “melancholy mad elephants.” The seminar will end with a Dickens dinner on Saturday night.

Accommodation will be in Saarbrücken hotels. The registration fee (which covers Saturday’s Dickens dinner) is 50 euros. Attendance is limited to 45 participants.
